Packet Video Announces New Twonky Mobile Android App

PacketVideo (PV) announced its new Twonky Mobile Android app, which lets you play and share media directly from your phone with the push of a button. With the app, you can stream personal and online media from your phone to any Web-connected gadget or device. Twonky Mobile lets you have on-the-go access to your media without being tethered to a PC or requiring clunky cables to connect to devices.

Additionally, it remembers your preferences for each network you connect to, and the auto-copy feature lets you opt to have the media on your phone automatically copied to your PC or MAC. 55% of TVs to Be Internet-Connected by 2013

In a recent study, the internet surpassed TV as the “most essential” medium.

By 2013, 55% of all TV models shipped by manufacturers will have a built-in web connection, says Steve Koenig, director of the Consumer Electronics Association.

The internet-connected TVs will not require separate boxes, software or setup. Only 18% of TVs shipped from manufacturers have built-in web connections today.

Partnerships have been developed...Google is in a partnership with Sony and Intel to make televisions act more like PCs, allowing users to access any site they want. In addition, Intel is working with some of the big names in the industry to get its processors into internet-connected TVs. Samsung is working on its own applications platform. Yahoo has built a user interface for internet TV that displays widgets for weather, news, shopping and social networking which run across the bottom of the screen.

Henry Choy Joins ActiveVideo Networks to Drive Web-Connected TV Initiative

Henry Choy, a highly regarded thought leader in the consumer electronics industry for more than 20 years, has joined ActiveVideo Networks™ as Vice President, Business Development, the company announced today.

Choy, who will be responsible for driving ActiveVideo’s Web-Connected TV initiative, has most recently served as vice president, consumer electronics business development for AnySource Media. They are an enabler of next-generation content on traditional CE devices. AnySource Media was acquired by DivX, Inc. earlier this year.

With ActiveVideo Networks, Choy will be responsible for driving partnerships between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and ActiveVideo’s CloudTV platform. It will significantly expand the reach and availability of rich, Web-based user experiences that are redefining connected TV and Blu-ray players.

Currently in 5 million homes, ActiveVideo® anticipates growth to more than 20 million cable, IPTV and Web-connected homes by year end, 2010.
